Propagating geranium cuttings in water is the easiest way to get lots more geranium plants FOR FREE! I love ivy and zonal geraniums (also known as pelargoniums). They are easy to grow in my hot arid climate and are almost always be in bloom, even in winter, which I LOVE. All it takes is a little know-how and a bit of patience and you will soon be up to your ears in geraniums!
I live in the Mojave Desert and in 2020 my container garden experienced over 30 days where the temperature was above 100 degrees Fahrenheit. There were many more days above 90 degrees. As I am writing this, it’s the third week of June 2021 and we are in the middle of a record-breaking triple digit heat wave. Summers here are brutal and the constant heat takes a toll on my plants. Over the years I have developed several strategies for keeping my container garden alive in the heat of summer.
It is possible that this has been the hottest July ever! It is also possible that I say that every year LOL. I am rarely prepared for the onslaught of daily temperatures over 100 degrees, and many of the plants don’t like it either. One plant that LOVES the heat is the easy to grow Pelargonium, more commonly known as geranium. Not to be confused with the hardy geraniums botanically known as Geranium. Confused yet?
