Am I the only one already dreaming about next year’s sweet pea blooms?  I hope not!  Ok, maybe I’m just the teeniest bit obsessed with these amazing flowers…but I know that in order to be successful growing sweet peas in my super hot climate (California’s Mojave Desert zone 8b) I need to get plants started this fall.  With this in mind, I thought I would do a quick post on the best places to buy sweet pea seeds online.

Seed for the more unique varieties of sweet peas can be somewhat difficult to find, unless you know where to look. Since I do not have any local stores that stock the seed I want, I order exclusively from online companies.  Happily, in recent years a couple of new suppliers have sprung up and some of the more established shops have expanded their product lines.

Sweet Pea Seed Suppliers:

Back to Dirt Farm- (Updated 8/15/22) There’s a new sweet pea seed supplier in town! Back to Dirt Farm is a mother-daughter run small farm in Sequim, Washington. They are in their second year of selling sweet pea seeds and have a unique lineup of varieties, many that I have never heard of before. The owners will be sending me out some seeds to try and I can’t wait to let you all know how they do!

Sweet Pea Gardens- SweetPeaGardens.com is a sweet pea grower based out of Chehalis, Washington. Their website is full of gorgeous photos that really give you a good idea of what your blooms will look like.  The owner is the sweetest lady and sent me several varieties of sweet pea seeds to try.  Some of my favorites that she sent out include Apricot Queen, Mrs. Bernard Jones, Pandemonium, and Spring Sunshine Champagne. They all performed very well!

Floret- Floret Flower is my favorite place to purchase sweet pea seeds. They have the best photos of all the vendors and the largest variety. I could literally spend hours drooling over the gorgeous pictures on their website. I had great success with germination and my flowers looked amazing. They ship super fast and you get lots of updates on your order status including delivery notification. The only problem is they sell out of their stock very quickly! For those of us who start our seeds in fall, Floret has started restocking their shop in September!

Renee’s Garden Seeds-Renee’s Garden has a very nice selection of sweet pea seeds. I have had great success with their seeds. Their website lets you view a couple different photos of each variety.  I like that their seed packets provide a lot of growing information and tips.  They have recently expanded their offerings to include quite a few more single varieties than they were previously carrying.

Owl’s Acre Seed- Owl’s Acre Seed is a great option for all of my friends in the UK. They have many great varieties and their seeds perform well. It has been several years since I ordered from them. While that particular order went smoothly with the seeds arriving in about a week, their website does caution that orders to the US can only be sent at the customer’s risk. Since many of the same varieties are now available in the US, I probably would not order from them again. The seeds that I do have from them perform perfectly.

Enchanting Sweet Peas- Enchanting Sweet Peas is based out of Sebastopol, California. Varieties on their website are conveniently sorted by color and they offer individual varieties and mixes, lots of links for growing information, and also sell sweet pea growing supplies.  The only issue I had with ordering is that I did not receive an order or shipping confirmation so I was left wondering if my order went through and when it would arrive.  Happily, my order showed up about a week later and was very cutely packaged.  A unique aspect of this company is that they offer a hotline number that you can call to speak with an experienced grower about any issues you may have.  All of the seeds I ordered grew well.
